Massey Ferguson has announced the new MF 9S Series tractor with a focus on achieving overall lower cost of ownership by maximizing uptime.
The MF 9S Series was built to meet the demands of the optimal planting window as that time gets shorter, averaging less than 12 days of suitable planting conditions in the last five years, according to Derek Reusser, tactical marketing manager for Massey Ferguson. The new tractors can have up to a 15% reduction in fuel consumption based on Massey Ferguson’s testing.
“Our goal at Massey Ferguson is to understand the dynamic challenges our farmers are facing and then quickly adapt our product portfolio to help our farmers solve those solutions — ultimately with the goal to help our farmers achieve better,” says Joe Whorton, director of marketing for Massey Ferguson. “That’s to achieve better cost of ownership, dependability, and crop quality, with the outcome of helping our farmers achieve better profitability in their operations.”
Under the red hood
There are six models in the new MF 9S Series, ranging from 285 to 425 hp. The tractors are built with a 6-cylinder, 8.4 liter AGCO Power engine, and — with the optional Dyna-VT transmission — can achieve a top speed of 30 mph. The standard transmission can reach a top speed of 25 mph.
The tractors are able to reach maximum power at 1,850 rpm, contributing to its fuel efficiency. Engine power management can boost power by up to 30 hp to generate as much as 150 Nm of extra torque.
Protect-U cab
The new Protect-U cab on the MF 9S Series was designed in part to help farmers address skilled-labor shortages.
“Maximizing operational efficiencies is also a critical challenge that our farmers are facing,” Reusser says. “Farmers are having to train folks that maybe didn’t grow up around farming, tasked with training operators that probably their only experience with off-road vehicles was an ATV at a birthday party.”
The cab is intended to provide an intuitive operator experience, with a focus on increased visibility and comfort. Features include automatic air-conditioning, rearview camera, and electronically de-icing and adjustable mirrors. The automatic air-suspended swivel seat is ventilated, with two levels of heating, lateral damping, and dual motion backrest.
Operators control tractor functions from the cab via the armrest Multipad lever, and Datatronic 5 9-inch touchscreen terminal. The Multipad lever operates the transmission, as well as cruise control, rear linkage, PTO, and headland management. The MF Power Control lever provides a dedicated control to straightforward forward and backward control.
Technology
The MF 9S Series has an open architecture platform to enable compatibility with a range of PTx Trimble’s precision agriculture technology. The tractors can be built with up to six rear electric spool valves to adapt to the farmer’s planting implement needs.
The 9S tractors have a 90 GPM economy pump to provide the power needed to operate their implements, enabling farmers to adapt the machine to their operations without taking that power away from the tractor itself.
